Industrial Landfill Project

Geography: southern Saskatchewan
Industry: Industrial Waste
Materials: 60 mil HDPE Micro Spike Geomembrane, Geo-Composite, Geotextile, Tie into existing Cells, Piping
Duration: 4 Weeks in Fall/Winter

Project Description

Engineered Containment has worked as a subcontractor on this Owner’s sites on multiple past projects but was contracted directly by the Owner under a multi-project Master Service Agreement.   The Owner recognized that liner subgrade preparation is critical to the long-term performance of their geosynthetic containment systems so they asked ECI to suggest a preferred earthworks contractor and awarded the contract based on ECI’s recommendation.

A late season construction schedule and early onset of winter forced much of the liner installation to be performed in cold, snowy winter conditions with associated safety, quality and schedule challenges, including risks that the engineered clay secondary liner might be damaged by frost.   Working closely and cooperatively with the owner and earthworks contractor, the team prevailed and we turned over an exceptional containment system in time to allow backfilling before the before freeze-up.

outcome

This quality liner system installation was safely completed on schedule.

lessons learned

Owners rely on professional organizations to construct containment systems that provide critical environmental protection and regulatory compliance. More value can often be created on projects by selecting and working closely with trusted Tier 1 contractors. Call ECI for more information on how to define and choose a Tier 1 liner installation contractor.
